Claim links let you scan a bill, share it, and have each friend tap the items they had. You stay out of the maths: Slyce works out each share, including tax and tip, and keeps the bill open until every item is claimed. The result flows into your friend balances and group settlements.
For the friend who always pays
Every group has one. They put the whole night on their card, then spend the next day building a spreadsheet of who had what and chasing people for the money. Claim links move that work to the people who ordered the food.
The steps, in short
- Scan or add the bill. Photograph the receipt. The items are read for you.
- Ask participants. Save it with nothing assigned. Slyce keeps it as an open bill and gives you a link and a QR code.
- Friends pick their name and tap their items. No app and no account. They can split a shared item, evenly or unevenly, or take what is left.
- Watch it fill up. See who is done and who is still picking, and nudge anyone who has not opened the link. Assign leftovers yourself if you need to.
- The bill closes itself. Balances appear once every item has an owner.
| Ana: Margherita | $15.00 |
| Ben: Carbonara | $16.00 |
| Chloe: Tiramisu + wine | $32.00 |
| You: Garlic bread | $7.00 |
| Friends owe you | $63.00 |
Why an open bill is safe
- Claims are never overwritten. You can keep editing the bill while friends claim; their choices are preserved.
- Nothing counts until it is final. An open bill stays out of balances and settlements, so nobody sees half-finished numbers.
- Conflicts are explained. If two people reach for the same item, Slyce tells them it changed and lets them review.
No account needed to take part
Friends open the link and claim their items without installing Slyce or signing up. They only need the app if they want their own history.
What makes it more than a claim screen
Other apps also let friends pick items from a link, and that is useful for a single dinner. In Slyce the claimed bill does not end there: it feeds the friend balances and group settlements described below, with simplified payments and any currency, on Android, iOS and the web.
One set of numbers, from the bill to the group
Slyce keeps three layers consistent, so you can start from whichever one you care about:
- Bill. Open a bill and see every item, who had it and each person's share, including tax and tip.
- Friend. Open a friend and see the one-to-one balance between the two of you across every bill and every group you share, in one place.
- Group. Open a group and see its balances and a single settlement plan with the fewest payments, in the group currency.
Bills do not need a group. A one-time dinner with people you will never add to a group is a normal bill, and it still counts in your friend balances.
Claim links or live mode?
| Claim links | Live mode | |
|---|---|---|
| When | Later, from anywhere | Together at the table |
| Connection | Works asynchronously | Needs a connection |
| Best for | Friends who pick at their own pace | A group finishing the bill in minutes |
Both end in the same place: a finalized bill that updates balances.
Frequently asked questions
Do my friends need Slyce to claim their items?
No. They open the link and tap their items without installing the app or creating an account.
What if a friend never claims their items?
The bill stays open. You can nudge them, or assign their items yourself and confirm.
Can I edit the bill while friends are claiming?
Yes. Edits do not erase claims that friends have already made.
What if two people had the same dish?
Share the item: split it evenly, in halves or thirds, uneven, or take whatever is left.
